Translation of Quotes

MLA gives several options, but this is the chosen format for papers written in a foreign language at Ravenscroft. Quote your translation of the original material and follow the translation with a parenthetical citation including the original English text, followed by a semicolon and the author’s last name (or first word of citation).

Format:

Text of paper. “Foreign Language Quote” (“English Translation”; Author Last Name).

Example:

… the Mayans were “la corona de la civilización mesoamericana” (“the crown of Mesoamerican civilization”; Smith 23).
